Toledo Symphony to perform at Founder's Hall in March

ARCHBOLD - The Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will present an evening of varied musical selections on Thursday, March 18 in Founder's Hall at Sauder Village. The performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is co-hosted by the Black Swamp Arts Council and Sauder Village.

This is the 20th year this highly respected orchestra has performed in beautiful Founder's Hall. All general admission tickets are just $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Tickets are on sale in the office at the Sauder Village Welcome Center and advance ticket purchases are recommended.

Resident Conductor Chelsea Tipton II will lead the evening performance. Now in his sixth year with the TSO, Tipton continues to develop and implement educational programs in the community for the orchestra. His guest conducting engagements have included the Atlanta, Chicago and Houston Symphony Orchestras. He has also appeared on the NBC's Today Show with Wynton Marsalis and has performed as a section clarinet player with many ensembles.

The Archbold program will feature music of Academy Award-winning films and film scores of past and present from great classics like the Ride of the Valkyries and the Blue Danube Waltz to music from Gone With the Wind, Rocky, E.T. and Amadeus.

A highlight of the evening will be the bassoon solo by Joan Weiler. Weiler has been associate principal/second bassoonist of the TSO since 1989 and this season is serving as acting principal bassoonist. She has also performed with the Columbus Symphony and the Columbus Opera Orchestra. Weiler was a finalist in the Fernand Gillet Double Reed Young Artist Competition in Graz, Austria and toured Japan for three weeks with The Ohio State University Concert Band. She currently serves on the faculties of the University of Toledo and Ohio Northern University.

This is the eighth year for the Black Swamp Arts Council to co-host this popular event with Sauder Village. "We're pleased to be working with Black Swamp Arts Council and as always appreciate their help and the support of so many people in our community," said Dawn Hauter, Sauder Village. "Thanks to donations from underwriters and area patrons, we are once again able to provide music students from area schools with free admission for this special Symphony performance."

All money raised through ticket sales and patron donations underwrites the costs of bringing the TSO to the community.

For more information or for tickets to the TSO concert at Founder's Hall, phone Sauder Village at 1 (800) 590-9755.
