Freedom Shrine dedication at DMS slated
DELTA - The members of the Exchange Club of Wauseon want to remind citizens of the history of our nation's freedom by dedicating a Freedom Shrine at the Delta Middle School on Friday, Feb. 12 at 8 a.m. State Senator Steve Buehrer, Delta, will be the featured speaker. Eddie Partin, vice-president of the Wauseon club, will also be present to dedicate the Shrine, which is prominently displayed in the hallway near the office and guidance office.
The Freedom Shrine, sponsored by The National Exchange Club, is a collection of photographic reproductions of original documents from American history. This display includes the Bill of Rights, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, along with many other significant historical documents.
Cathy Segrist, president of the Wauseon Exchange Club, said club members hope that dedicating this Freedom Shrine will remind citizens of the courage, dedication and sacrifice of their forefathers. In addition, the club hopes to help young people learn how important it is to make certain that our precious freedom is preserved.
The members of The National Exchange Club have dedicated almost 11,000 Freedom Shrines in schools, military installations and government buildings since the program's inception in 1949. The Freedom Shrine program is one of many that Exchange Clubs sponsor to encourage citizenship and patriotism among their fellow Americans.
Exchange Club is a group of men and women working to make America a better place to live through one national project, Prevention of Child Abuse, and other community projects.
