Neighbors help restores one's faith in people

I was pleased to run across David Coehrs' update on 14-year-old Tiffany Bates, seriously burned in an October 23 furnace accident.

I heard of Tiffany's ordeal while volunteering at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore, in Defiance. Habitat executive director Jaime Blank had posted a large newspaper clipping about it on the back room bulletin board and pointed it out while we broke for pizza. Jamie, Tiffany's uncle, was both upbeat and somber as he answered our questions about the tragedy. I note that he will emcee the March 6 benefit in Wauseon to help pay the high medical bills.

Thank you for highlighting the fundraiser. With so much bad news, each example of neighbors helping neighbors restores one's faith in humankind. Enjoy the rest of your freshman year, Tiffany, and may your recovery be swift and smooth.
