Oak Harbor FFA had a busy year with numerous events

In 2009, the Oak Harbor FFA Chapter has committed time, effort, and money to continually support the local community.

The FFA was involved so many activities, here is a list several of our most recognizable activities:

* FFA Chapter conducted and sponsored awards for Apple Festival Kiddie Tractor Pull in October, 2009

* FFA Conducted a Haunted Woods on October 10th with over $750 collected and donated to the Oak Harbor Food Pantry.

* Food Pantry collection of over 100 canned food items was made in October, 2009

* (1) members received State FFA Degrees in May, 2009. This member was: Sarah Harder, daughter of Raymond and Nancy Harder of Oak Harbor - Congratulations.

* (2) members received their American FFA Degrees in October, 2009 - Scott Rider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Rider; and Brittany Brough, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Brough.

* 2008 FFA Officers - Brittany Brough - Secretary and Kelsey Gahler - Reporter received Gold officer awards at 2008 State FFA Convention.

* Ag. Business students participated in Food For America Program at Graytown Elementary School in May, 2009.

* School Farm Update: 16 acres of Wheat with 28 variety plots that averaged 68 bushel per acre; 22 acres of soybeans with USDA Sentinel Rust Plot, The Ohio State University Soybean Population replicated plots, and 28 variety plots that averaged 61 bushel per acre; and 15 acres of corn with 21 varieties planted on May 5rd that averaged 181.1 bushel per acre. A total of over 100 test plots on the 2009 crop year on FFA Farm.

* Total of 55 students certified for Tractor and Machine operation in 2009.

* Total of 83 students certified for Hunter Education program in late 2009.

* Field trips to: Pfeiffer Farms, Farm Science Review, Food for America, Oak Haven Draft horse farm, District Career Development events, State Skills contests, State and National Conventions, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Explore Penta Days, etc.

* Chapter participated in Monsanto Sticky Trap Program again in 2009.

* Chapter conducted drive to collect supplies for Military. - Adopt a Soldier- at Holiday Season - Shipped several boxes of supplies to Iraq.

* Chapter constructed a Play Barn for Habitat for Humanity in 2009 that was raffled during the Apple Festival in Oak Harbor - October 9-10, 2009.

* 2009 - Chapter placed 9th in sweepstakes at State Fair for entries by a department.

* Delegation of Officers, and Mr. Neiderhouse attended National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, in October, 2009.

* Top Sales Person for 2009 - Dustin Brough with over $2100.00 in fundraising activities.

* Chapter sold a total of $27,600.00 of materials in the 2009 Fundraising campaign.

* Chapter worked with USDA and OSU Extension in research with Sentinel Plots, Moth Traps, Adult Rootworm Traps, Blackbird damage count in corn varieties, and replicated Soybean Population plots in 2009.

* 2009 - 100% members to exhibit at Ottawa County Fair.

* Local FFA Banquet conducted on February 21st with over 500 members, guest and advisors present.

* Chapter has received over $3600.00 in Camp Scholarship money donated in 2009

* Chapter conducted Foundation Drive and sent $500.00 to the FFA Foundation program in 2009.

* Chapter sent 2 members to National Leadership Seminar in Washington. Dustin Brough and Tyler Kitzler participated in Washington Leadership Conference in June, 2009.

* Chapter made donations at end of 2009 to: Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio, Care & Share program of Ottawa County, Holiday Bureau of Ottawa County, Children's Hospital, CWS/CROP, Adopt a Soldier Program, Toys for Tots program, HS Yearbook sponsor, Fruit to Riverview County Home, Food Pantry, and FFA Foundation Program.

* Chapter welcomed Miss Krysteena Brown as permanent substitute teacher to replace Mr. Mark Starkey in September, 2009.
