Upcoming events to be held at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge
Nature Tots: Bald Eagles, January 9th
Do you have a little one who loves nature, likes to do crafts, and enjoys listening to stories about plants and animals?
Children ages 3 to 5 and their favorite adult are invited to visit Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, January 9th from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for our free monthly "Nature Tots" program in partnership with the Black Swamp Bird Observatory.
This month's theme is "Bald Eagles." Children will learn about bald eagles, do an eagle craft, and listen to a fun story! If weather permits, we'll head outside for a short walk. Registration is required - space is limited. To register, please call Laura at (419) 898-0014.
Naturally Speaking: "Incredible India," January 10th
Jack and Janet Volker, co-presidents of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Association, will present "Incredible India" at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge on Sunday, January 10th at 2:00 p.m.
Come learn about their experiences birding, exploring the beautiful scenery, and meeting the amazing people of India. The presentation is part of the monthly "Naturally Speaking" seminar series, and is cosponsored by the Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Programs are free and open to the public.
Auto Tour Open January 16th
Drive through seven miles of the refuge which are normally closed to the public. Weather permitting, the auto tour route will be open Saturday, January 16th, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Drive at your own pace as you travel along a well-marked route, following a self-guided tour brochure found at the route entrance.
Make sure you stop at the refuge's Visitor Center, too! Explore hands-on exhibits and watch a short film about the natural and cultural history of the Lake Erie marsh ecosystem and the Great Black Swamp.
